Big Adventures for Big Kids!
For the Kodiak campers who are ready for challenge, we offer multi-day experiences guided by our most experienced staff members. Kids will plan their own backpacking trips with the help of their counselors or work together while rafting down the South Fork American River! Spaces are limited so sign up today!
Backpacking in the Central Sierra Nevadas
These 1 or 2 night trips take place on one of the many beautiful hiking trails around Bear Valley. Participants will hike roughly 4-8 miles each day, depending on the route they choose. At the beginning of the week, participants will start planning their trip with their counselors. This includes picking out which trail, where to camp, meal prep, equipment packing, and other outdoor skills like the Leave No Trace principles.
We focus on packing meals that will replace the necessary calories burned throughout the trip. We aim for high protein, fats, and fiber content in the meals we put together. Our “Meals in a Bag” are light weight, delicious, calorie conscious, minimal waste, and easy clean-up. If your child has food restrictions or dietary needs, you can discuss this with the Camp Director prior to the trip. We want to ensure that every kid will have more than enough food, but will also be able to carry the weight they pack.
Our inventory of kid size equipment includes;
- Backpacking packs
- Sleeping pads
- Sleeping bags
- Camp stoves and pots
- Water filters
Each participant will be given their own pack, sleeping pad, and sleeping bag. The group gear like stoves, tents, and water filters will be equally distributed to the group. If a participant would like to use their own equipment, please bring it to camp before the trip so we can make sure it will be appropriate for the trip. All participants must be able to hike with their own pack.

OARS Rafting Trip
We are excited to partner with OARS for our annual rafting trip down the South Fork American River. This 2-day trip consists of on-site camping the night before, then an early start to a half day rafting experience. This beautiful section of the river starts with some easy rapids to warm up the team and synchronize their strokes in preparation for the more challenging section after lunch.
For this trip we will invite some parent chaperones to join us to help with car pooling to the OARS American River Outpost in Lotus. They will also enjoy rafting along with the camper the next day! If you are interested in joining your camper on this trip, feel free to contact the Camp Director at firstname.lastname@example.org
Registration is open now for this trip. Registration will close 2 weeks prior to the trip date in order to complete necessary paperwork from OARS. Space is limited so sign up today!
