2018 STAFF BIOS
Sydney Aardal grew up in Arnold where she developed a strong love for the Sierra Nevada Mountains and all outdoor activities. She attended Northern Arizona University and earned a degree in Biology. She spends most of her time playing a lot of Ultimate Frisbee, exploring swimming holes, and enjoying the company of her friends. In May, she graduates from UC Berkeley with a Master’s Degree in Science and Math Education. Her passion is in supporting and educating young people and she is extremely excited to work at BV Summer Day Camp for another summer!
Kevin Maurer is thrilled to be back for his third summer at Bear Valley Summer Day camp. Kevin grew up in Murphy’s and is very knowledgable about the area our campers will be exploring. He is finishing up his senior year at Humboldt State studying Geography, focusing his final thesis on using geocaches as an education tool. An avid backpacker, experienced mountain biker, as well as wilderness and survival certified, Kevin is pumped to get back out on the trails with his Kodiak group.
Carley Herndon was born in Oakdale before moving to Nevada at a young age. She lived there until moving to Angels Camp in 2010 where she calls home. She played basketball, volleyball, softball, and was very active in FFA showing lambs and cattle. She graduated from high school in 2016 and now attends Butte Junior College where she plays softball and studies Animal Science. She plans to transfer to CSU Chico to finish up her studies and then onto UC Davis for her veterinary degree. She loves being outdoors exploring the beautiful country we are blessed enough to live in and she cannot wait to be around kids all day showing them the beauty she sees.
Jennifer Manetta, AKA Mam Jam, has been with us for 5+ summers and we couldn’t be happier to have her back. She is a long time preschool teacher, outdoor adventure camp leader, artist, and nature lover. She knows the ins and outs of BVSDC and is the backbone of our crew. Our cubs expert is ecstatic to return for another great summer!
